MA in Development Studies
イーストアングリア大学のMA in Development Studiesはプログラムの目的は主要な社会科学の手法とテクニックを磨き、実践的な途上国の開発と社会的、政治的変化の分析に適応することです。このMAのプログラムを例にとり、どのようなコースが行われているかをご紹介します。各大学によりそれぞれ変わりますので、具体的なひとつの例としてご覧ください。
MA in Development Studies
1年を2つのセメスターと論文を作成する期間に分けています。
それぞれの学期で1つの必修科目と２つの選択コースをとります。つまり、2学期で6つのコースを勉強し、その後論文を作成することになります。全てのコースが20単位となっています。
秋学期の必修科目
秋学期にとる必修科目がDevelopment Perspectivesです。この科目の狙いとその目的は下記のように記述されています。
Aim
To consider with students the issue of Knowledge and Progress. Development implies social change; societies change because people change their behaviour; and people choose to behave differently to better realize their potentials. All human activity always takes place in a social context, and how we understand this context is the key to understanding development. Perspectives in development ask different questions of the same experience, and understanding the social relevance of particular questions is central to critical thinking about progress, development, and policy initiatives to improve people's well-being.
Purpose
We will critically address the various meanings of the word 'development', the ways in which the various the or ies rationalize human experience; the relationships between the historical process of development and alternative economic, social and political contexts; and the relation between the development concepts and argument, and their ideological and political implications.
Outcomes
Students will be able to compare, contrast and understand analyses of development as a guide to social change to improve individuals' social existence.

春学期にとる必修科目がContemporary World Developmentです。この科目の狙いとその目的は下記のように記述されています。
Aim
To provide an understanding of debates around contemporary development issues, the central theme of which will be "understanding globalization".
Purpose
To enable students, in an interdisciplinary framework, to critically compare and contrast alternative development strategies and understand alternative policy prescriptions for development problems.
Outcomes Students can expect to have an awareness and understanding of the implications and significance of alternative policy strategies for development issues in the context of a globalised world economy.
